Many companies' contracts take away your right to sue in court. They require you to instead go to arbitration, which happens in a private setting through one of a few arbitration companies. In many cases, this means people don't pursue their rights because it is too inefficient. It occurs in traditional courts, but it differs from a class action in that every person who wants to be involved has to come forward and participate individually, usually by hiring a lawyer. In a class action, most people can sit back and file a claim if the case is successful.

In December of 2023, Senate Bill 410 was signed into law and Michigan finally got rid of its tragic status as the only place where people who were harmed by a dangerous drug couldn't sue for their injuries. Michiganders now have rights similar to our fellow Americans in the other 49 states.
